Literacy Class

Our class LOVES Daily 5 time! This is the reading and writing program implemented in our classroom. Daily 5 is the structure we use to plan our literacy block. Children are busy completing meaningful literacy tasks. The choices are:

Read to self

Work on writing

Word Work

Listen to reading

Read to Someone

While the students are completing their literacy tasks, I meet with small groups or conference with individual students. Students are given literacy assignments weekly as we work on various reading and writing strategies. The students are also given time to work on self-selected literacy tasks. Our class absolutely loves to work on writing. Students are always creating books, fiction and non-fiction stories and letters just to name a few.

Kaleb chose "Word Work" to practice spelling his words correctly.

Ivory is practicing her list of words by writing in salt and using clay.

Leilani's "Word Work" words were until and hobby. 

She now spells these two words correctly in her writing!
