We have been reading and writing various types of procedural texts. This week the students made sock puppets and using the iPads they took pictures and wrote about each step using details such as action words and transition words. Then for drama, they used their puppets to create and present a skit about being caring. They even presented their skits to the JK/SK class.

2D Figure Fun!
In math we are learning about 2D figures and their attributes. Students must be able to describe the figures using mathematical language including parallel lines, length of lines and acute, obtuse or right angles.
Students worked in pairs to make up their own sorting rules.
Patrick and Elizabeth sorted their figures using the rules "Some Parallel Lines" and "4 sides".

Math in Art
Students were given pattern blocks to create a picture.
The challenge given: use at least 1 of each of the 5 quadrilaterals we have learned
(square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, parallelogram).
Some very creative art pieces!

Physical Education
Last week during our physical education class, the students were given freedom to choose among a variety of physical activities. It was great seeing the students try new activities and get active in fun ways.
Doing some cardio on the the bouncy balls and beans!
Tree pose.
Floor Hockey
Scooter fun!
More students trying out yoga.
Random Act of Kindness Day
Random Act of Kindness Day was on November 7, 2014 and it is a day increasingly celebrated around the world in order to encourage acts of kindness. All week we discussed, read about and watched videos on how we can show kindness to others everyday. One way we showed kindness was by helping the earth with a litter clean up around our school. The students were happy to help the earth and would like to do it again in the future!
Problem Solving in Math
During our unit on addition and subtraction we practiced problem-solving using an I chart. The I chart is helpful in showing what strategies students used to solve the problem, their actual calculations and the explanation as to how they got the answer. It's a great tool to help students communicate their answers in math.
The students worked in partners to figure out the answer and then they shared their solutions with the class. It's a great way for others to see what strategies are being used and ways they can improve. It also allows the students to become the "teachers".
Spooky fun on October 31st!
We had an exciting day on October 31, 2014. All week the students spent time writing their very own spooky story. With the lights off and a flashlight for mood lighting, each student shared their story with the class. What creative minds we have in 3/4B!
We had some pumpkin fun in math class! We measured the diameter of 2 pumpkins, compared their weight and predicted which pumpkin would have more seeds. Once we opened the pumpkins and took the seeds out, everyone estimated how many seeds each pumpkin had. We then carefully counted all the seeds. Pumpkin #1 had 262 seeds and pumpkin #2 had 523 seeds.
